Ten.
Yes, TEN!
10.
X.
The Pipe reaches issue ten and guess what? It's just more of the same.
Random musical scrapings from the world of MP3 Blogs and Bootlegs.
And a woozy effort from Mr Electroretro.
So step inside and try not to let my cat out.
Bjork - "Oceania"
Well, I sat on friday night watching the rather spectacular Olympic Opening Ceremony and was eagerly awating the appearance of Bjork. Alas, I ended up channel hopping and missed the majority of her performance and I only managed to hear a little part of her song. Luckily, after some sniffing about today, I managed to find out what the song was and even luckier, found someone hosting it.
The track in question, "Oceania", is from Bjork's forthcoming "Medulla" album. This album is being based all around vocal rhythms and features such talents as Beatbox legend Rahzel and the rather scary Dokaka from Japan, whose multi-tracked beatbox versions of such songs like Slayer's "Angel Of Death" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" have to be heard to be believed. Faith No More's Mike Patton also makes an appearance and the production is being put together by Múm's Valgeir Sigurdsson and previous Bjork collaborators, Matmos.
Don't be expecting Bjork to have gone all old skool hip hop on us and knocking out Fat Boys-esque tracks, anyone who has heard the opening track "The Pleasure Is All Mine" will testify that the sound is incredibly layered, strange and even down right eerie.
I for one can't wait for the album to appear.
This track is quite a low rip, 80k or something, but it should give you an idea of what to expect from "Medulla".

Radio 4 - "Party Crashers"
Also, over on MonkeySARS, is a track from the forthcoming Radio 4 album. These New York, post punk revivalists came to my attention in 2002 when their "Dance To The Underground" track was getting caned on MTV2. The album that it was taken from, "Gotham", became one of my favourites from that year.
Their forthcoming "Stealing Of A Nation" album promises a more electronic edge to their stuff and this track is a good indication with its dance beats, bubbling synth lines and a rather nice piano hook too.

Zimen - "Pump Up The Rapture (re-edit club mix)"
And whilst on the subject of port punk revivalists, The Rapture get a tasty remix here from a bootlegger by the name of Zimen. It was entered into DJ Prince's "Pump Up The Volume" challenge over on GYBO, that was mentioned a couple of Pipe issues back.
Here, The Rapture's "House Of Jealous Lovers" track gets padded out with M/A/R/R/S' beats and percusion. Very good it is too, and it's only Zimen's second ever boot...

IDC - "Pleasure From Fireflies"
I've mentioned IDC before on here, way back in the first Pipe. I really wanted to give you all the heads up about his recent bootleg of Kasabian, Blur and the Happy Mondays, but unfortunately BMG rapped the guys knuckles for it and he's had to remove it from his site. It's a shame, as it is a belter of a track. Called "Processed Baggy Beats" it was the perfect ressurection of that '90s indie Baggy sound.
So instead, I am letting you know about this gem from IDC's rather swish back catalogue. Taking Tiga's "Pleasure From The Bass" (I think it's the heavy and 303 bliss of the "Joakim Mix") and Blackstrobe's "Italian Fireflies" he wires them both together to create one almighty electro stomper.

Kasabian - "LSF (Lionel's Galang Edit)"
So I couldn't bring you the Kasabian "Processed Beats" bootleg, but I can point you in the direction of Lionel Vinyl's remix of the current Kasabian single "LSF". It's the usual high standard Lionel remix and it features one of my fave songs from last year, MIA's "Galang" and cheeky snippets from Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out".
It's the business. It's also the second great Kasabian remix he has done. His Fake ID guise took on Kasabian's "Reason Is Treason" and was mentioned on The Pipe before and is still available on his Fake ID site.

Lionel Vinyl Vs Prince & Sheena Easton - "You Got The Breaks"
Oh, my favourite legger has been a busy boy... He's just put out this great remix of the 80's classic "U Got The Look". Using the original version of the track, a remix of it that was kicking about a couple of years ago, some other beats and pieces and added bass and guitar from the good man himself.
Honestly, I should rename this blog from "The Pipe" to "The Lionel Vinyl Fan Club"...

Thriftshop XL Vs Orbital - "You Lot Are Becoming Cheeky Bastards"
Highlight of the final Orbital album is the Christopher Eccleston sampling track "You Lot".
Here is a fine, albeit short, remix of it in which Thriftshop XL cuts up the spoken sample that is the centre of the track. The cheeky bastard.

Empire State Human - "Be My Useless Husband"
He does it again.
If you downloaded and loved Empire State Human's excellent remix of Low's "I Remember" from a previous Pipe, then you are going to adore this. If you're a fan of downtempo tracks, then you are going to adore this. If you're a fan of Nina Simone, then guess what? Yup, you're going to adore this.
Nina Simone's "Be My Husband" is given a lovely deep remix with the aid of Kruder & Dorfmeister's classic chilled out dub excursion of Depeche Mode's "Useless".
Stunning.
Be sure to check out Empire State Human's site and his excellent Blog, "Spoilt Victorian Child". His blog is fast becoming one of my favourites on the web, so much so, I'm reading it more than Fluxblog these days.
Honestly, I can't recommend his blog enough, so get over there and bookmark it.

Electroretro - "All Night Games"
Keeping the mood mellow, Cuss's dancing stormtrooper is back with a a nice mellow mash, which probably explains why he was falling asleep on Friday night whilst trying to play Project Gotham Racing 2 on Xbox Live. Poor lad.
Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" and Peter Gabriels "Games Without Frontiers" get comfy together with a handful of beats, some Santana and a few other surprises that I won't ruin for you.
Good stuff as always.

Massive Attack - "Protection (The Eno Mix)"
Heaven forbid Electro hears this, he'll be snoring by the 2 minute mark...
Those that know me know that I am a bit of a Brian Eno fan. Some would say to the point of obsession... So it was with great delight that I stumbled across a site that had put up his tremendous remix of this Massive Attack classic.
It appeared on the CD single of "Protection" back in 1995, so if you missed it, then get downloading.
The Ambient master adds plenty of atmosphere with the aid of what sounds like a storm slowly rolling in over the top of Tracey Thorn's sweet vocals.
Play with headphones on for the full effect...

Another Pipe polished. Hope you enjoyed the selections.
Feel free to tell me to stop posting Lionel Vinyl / Fake ID tracks in the Forum.
