The Pipe's favourites of the year...
As there will only be one more post of The Pipe this year, I thought I'd give you all an early xmas present in the form of a bumper bag of bootlegs.
The Pipe goes back to its bootleg roots and has been stuffed with some of my favourites of the past year.
I hope you enjoy...
Track : DIVIDE & KREATE - "SINCE YOU AIN'T ME"
This has to be my favourite of the year by a moon mile. Kelly Clarkson's killer power pop of "Since U Been Gone" gets beefed up to the way it should have sounded with the extra help of Frank Black's blustery guitars from his "You Ain't Me" track.
Track : DJ JOHN - "VICTIM OF DA FUNK"
The return to The Pipe of DJ John. I posted his remix of Prince's "Kiss" a long time ago, but this time he's mixing up The Eagles and Daft Punk. As per DJ John's other mixes, expect loads of samples to come flying in and out too. A great head nodder and a good mix of guitars and hip hop beats.
Track : DUNPROOFIN' - "NEVER WIN (GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE)"
Great A & B mix of Liberty X's Mantronix cover, "Got To Have Your Love", and Fischerspooner's "Never Win". Dunproofin' has been churning out some corkers this year. It's well worth keeping an ear out for his stuff over on Get Your Bootleg On. I also recommend checking out his remix of Primal Scream's "Higher Then The Sun" from the Screamixadelica bootleg album.
Track : BUMTSCHAK - "COME TITO'S WAY"
Excellent atmospheric merging of Annie's "Come Together" and The Juan MacLean's "Tito's Way" that gives both tracks a more polished edge to them.
Track : FUJIKATO - "DAMAGED (Fujikato SBE Mix)"
I mentioned the Screamixadelica album above and this, for me, was the highlight. Not so much a bootleg, rather a remix that only features a tiny amount from the original. When you hear it, you'll be wondering how on earth it's going to appear over this sublimely produced electronic track...
Track : FUTURO - "BREATHE WITH ME TILL DAWN"
Pink Floyd's "Breathe" gets all smoochy with one of my favourite guilty pleasures, Judie Tzuke's "Stay With Me Till Dawn". Futuro is another producer who has been very busy this year - check his site out - it was a toss up between this boot or his great Rose Royce / Chic mashup.
Track : TEAM 9 - "ONLY A LULLABY"
Australia's Team 9 have been favourites of mine for quite some time now. Here he keeps up his high standard by mixing Ashanti's "Only U" over The Cure's classic "Lullaby".
Track : HARD-LIFE - "HARD TOXIC (STUPID SEPTEMBER MIX)"
Is this the work of Go Home Productions under a different guise? I have been led to believe it is. Whether it is or not, this takes Hard-Fi's "Hard To Beat" track as its basis and just keeps adding more and more vocals to it, so step up Britney Spears, Madonna, Garbage and Earth, Wind & Fire!?
Track : E-JITZ - "TWO MAGDELANE FUCKERS"
The barmy Scots are back with this storming, shambolic mix of De'Lacy's "Hideaway" over the top of The Smiths, Fred Wesley & The JB's and a cheeky wee pinch of Andrew Weatherall's remix of My Bloody Valentine's "Soon". Lob in some hip hop beats and you have a bootleg that'll make you think that "baggy" never went away...
Track : MURDERBOT VS AMERIE - "ONE THING"
Like Fujikato's "Damaged", this too is a remix and not so much a boot. Here, Murderbot livens up Amerie's r&b hit "One Thing" by giving it a lethal drum and bass going over. And I mean a going over... Top stuff.
