#3 in an occasional series...
#1 - ST3PAN0VA - "DUB MONDAY"
#2 - SOUNDHOG - "A DAY IN TRACY'S LIFE"
And now...
Track : JPL - "SHANNON IS THE DRUG FOR ME"
I'd forgotten just how simple and good this was.
I hadn't heard it for a very long time and then it took me by surprise again when the wife had it blaring out in her car a couple of weeks back whilst she was playing some old CD's I had made up for her.
It's not as technical as the previous 2 Lost Bootlegs and is very much in the old style A+B mould of the genre.
Actually, I'm belittling it just a tad. JPL has knocked up a great tight loop comprising of Roxy Music's "Love Is The Drug" and Santana's "Oye Como". Even though it's a great head nodding, funky rhythm the clincher is the inclusion of the vocals from Shannon's "Give Me Tonight". The original Shannon track is a heady mix of electro beats and effects that, along with her other classic "Let The Music Play", were huge hits with clubbers and school kids spinning on their backs on sheets of lino back in the early 80's.
To hear the vocals away from their original production and then slapped on top of a well known riff is great and they compliment each other well.
It sounds really fresh considering the Roxy track is around 30 years old now and Shannon's is around 20...
