The Eye... on the BB5 house
Posted by Simon at May 23, 2004 11:39 PM

New photos of the Big Brother 5 house have been released by Channel 4, and The Eye has taken a close look at them to try and reveal some of the upcoming secrets...

There's going to be 2 bunkbeds in the fifth series of the show - a first for the British big brother, although used widely in other countries versions of the show. No doubt there will be drunken stumbles as housemates try and get in to the top bunk after a long nights worth of drinking, or maybe they'll just not bother and get in one of the other beds instead.

Strange football style globes hang over the housemates and it's not too clear what these are - maybe it's to remind them of Euro 2004 which is taking part at the same time, or maybe they're just some abstract piece which have some kind of bizarre mood creating feel to them... The "woodland glade" feel is being emphasised in the bedroom with the use of the Woods wallpaper which shows plenty of forest style landscape and tree trunks, whilst also being repeated on the bedding.

Interestingly you can see the doors which lead out to the garden, and they appear to be clear glass, meaning Housemates probably won't be able to retire to the bedroom when Big Brother wants to place something in the garden or keep them out of sight of external influences such as intruders. Surely clear doors also mean there will be plenty of light flooding the room at night, causing those poor housemates who can't sleep in anything but pure darkness many restless nights, no doubt followed by bitchy grumpy mornings - excellent!

The main house area where the kitchen and sofa are located is said to be much smaller this year, and because of this the table is a fold-away one which will have to be put up and removed by housemates when they want to use it - again no doubt this will cause arguments as housemates either can't be bothered to take it down or put it up, or just simply reveal the lack of co-operation between some members of the house.

If you look closely at the photo which shows the sofa and table on the left, you can see what looks like loose carpet which has just been placed down like floor tiles - earlier photos taken from the Big Brother 5 advert revealed that this was a lighter colour carpet, and it's not known why it's been covered over for this photo.

Both of these internal views also show the awful decor that the BB5 house has, including the blue hands on the wall in the kitchen, and the puddles and blobs on the garish green wall near the sofa. To make things even worse for housemates, the floor has been raised in parts, and also had the ceiling level lowered from last year, so as there's a real crampt atmosphere, which is hoped will cause housemates to get stressed and feel clostrophobic.

The thatched hut in the garden appears to not only have a small jacuzzi pool and two "mud baths" but also a walk-in shower area. There's also a small hut to the right of this area which the photos reveal will be the "wax room" - it contains a waxing machine and a seat which the producers hope contestants will use whilst waxing themselves - or each other.

Papers over the weekend claim that the shortlisted housemates were removed from their day to day activities last weekend, before the advertising started on Channel 4, meaning they'll have no idea of the "Big Brother Gets Evil" theme for this year, and also won't have seen the photos of the house which have been revealed in the adverts.
